Scientists have watched the psychological and emotional developments and changes in the brain in participants who experience generous action. The answers of these people all prove that giving gives them comfort.
Brain scans in these people also show that the part of the brain responsible for generous action also triggers reactions in other parts of the brain that are associated with feelings of happiness .
A group of other volunteers also participated in the study but instead of giving away they were asked to spend on themselves. The results indicate that this group does not have as many happy feelings as the group gives.
What is special is that the participants who give away experience are happy and the level of happiness is completely independent of the value of the money they give. Thus, when giving away, people feel happier than when they use it for themselves.
