1. Legless lizard
Legless lizard was discovered at Los Angeles International Airport, USA. They are much different from snakes, such as the ability to separate tail to escape in emergencies and also have eyelids that snakes do not have, the jaws are hard and not as flexible as snakes. This is a reptile descendant of the usual four-legged lizard, while the snake evolves from an extremely rare four-legged lizard.
2. Epaulette sharks
Epaulette fat is found in Indonesia, often living in shallow waters on the ocean floor. Instead of swimming, they "walk" by wriggling their bodies and pushing two fins shaped like paddles. This fish evolved to adapt to nocturnal activity, which can increase blood flow to the brain and close unnecessary neurological functions, thus surviving hours in the absence of oxygen.
3. Olinguito panda
Olinguito is a new species of mammal family discovered by Kristofer Helgen in August. Olinguito weighs an average of about 900 grams, often eating fruits and insects, living in the forests of the Andes in Ecuador and Colombia. . Their names are derived from the Spanish language meaning "small olingo", because they are similar in shape to olingo but smaller in size. Olinguito panda has been mistaken for olingo for many years.
4. Mouse Boki Mekot
Scientists discovered rats Boki Mekot while exploring in Halmahera island in Indonesia. The rodent is small in size, gray-brown in color, the abdomen is white and has a white point at the end of the tail. Early studies show that this is omnivorous and has the DNA characteristics of animals from the West migrating to Asia.
5. Oreophryne frog
Three new frog species of the Oreophryne species, Oreophryne cameroni, Oreophryne parkopanorum and Oreophryne gagneorum, were discovered in Papua New Guinea. Oreophryne frogs currently have 7 species, each with a small size of only 20 mm. Researchers believe the area may still have many new undiscovered species.
6. Chondrocladia lyra Sponges
The sponge Chondrocladia lyra, also known as the harp sponge, is shaped like a harp, discovered in the waters off California, USA, with an autonomous probe. Unlike other sponges that eat bacteria or organic matter, Chondrocladia lyra is a meat-eating sponge. This sponge has long fringes protruding from veins, small spines on the traps used to trap fish to pass, then wrap the prey in a thin film and gradually digest.
7. Carolina hammerhead shark
Carolina hammerhead was discovered in 2006 but was not officially named until this year. The shark is named after the discovery area of South Carolina, USA. The main feature to distinguish them from other shark species is the number of vertebrae. Scientists believe that these sharks exist widely in the world but are difficult to identify because their migration habits are still a big mystery.
8. Cambodian Warblers
Cambodia Tailorbird (Cambodia Tailorbird) is a small bird, with a plume of orange red on its head, discovered in the capital Phnom Penh. Tailorbird comes from a meticulous degree when birds weave leaves together to build nests. The bird is quite similar in appearance to regular warblers, but after studying feathers, DNA and singing, scientists concluded this was a new warbler. Cambodian Warblers are now on the list of threatened animals because their habitat is shrinking.
9. Killer whales
The killer whale is the largest of the whales and is also the most ferocious whale of the ocean. Until now, scientists have discovered and recognized 3 killer whales in the world. This is the 4th killer whale found in the southern Indian Ocean. The distinguishing characteristics of this new species include differences in behavior, eating habits, genetic sequences and small head shapes with small white patches in the eyes.
10. Spider tiger
The new Poecilotheria species, Poecilotheria rajaei, is found in northern Sri Lanka. The new spiders are about 20 cm long, along the legs and the body has gray and yellow stripes. In the past, spiders used to live on trees, but since deforestation increased the natural environment, they began moving into abandoned buildings.
