2 earthquakes shook western China
Two moderate intensity earthquakes this morning rocked northwest and southwest China. There is no information about casualties yet.
According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a magnitude 6.0 earthquake happened in Xinjiang region, about 100km from Y Ninh city, at 8.20am this morning. Meanwhile, another earthquake shook the area adjacent to Sichuan and Jiangsu provinces at 8am, with a magnitude of 5.5 richter. There is no information about casualties yet.
The Xinjiang earthquake occurred at a depth of 27km, while the quake near Sichuan was located at a depth of 16km.
The most devastating earthquake in recent years in China was the Sichuan earthquake in May 2008, with a magnitude of 7.9, and killed nearly 90,000 people.
