As recommended by experts, just drinking two glasses of wine or a liter of beer a day can triple the risk of oral cancer, if you drink 6 alcoholic drinks regularly (half a beer or a cup Alcohol (175ml) is equivalent to 2 units, but strong beer and large wine glasses equivalent to nearly 3 units) also double the risk of high blood pressure, leading to the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Current guidelines recommend women to drink less than 3 units, and men who drink do not exceed 3-4 alcohol units per day.

The study, conducted by the British Cancer Research Institute, shows that alcohol causes 12,500 cases of cancer each year, including cancers of the breast, intestine, mouth and throat.
