3 wrong eating habits of Vietnamese people during Tet

Vietnamese people often have a habit of hoarding too much food for a few days of Tet holiday but not anticipating the health risks.

Stock up too much food during Tet

In the Northern provinces, the Lunar New Year often has drizzling rain, wet weather creates favorable conditions for bacteria and mold to develop. Therefore, poorly preserved food is prone to mold, poisoning to users, especially if causing aflatoxin poisoning is very dangerous. Meanwhile in the South, hot weather, high protein foods such as meat and fish are susceptible to rancidity.

Therefore, according to the Director of Food Safety (Ministry of Health) Nguyen Thanh Phong, people should change their consumption habits during Tet, not to store too much food. Currently, on the first and second days of the Lunar New Year, supermarkets, markets have sold, fresh products such as meat, fish, vegetables, fruits . are always available to meet the demand for consumers.

Think of the refrigerator as "the museum"

Almost every house now has a refrigerator, or buy food to store. However, Mr. Phong noted that people should not consider the refrigerator as a "treasure" because other refrigerators with freezers can only preserve food for a certain period of time.

According to the Institute of Nutrition, with meats, the retention time should not exceed 3-5 days, fish is 3 days, especially cheeses can be 1-3 months. With cooked food, once removed from the refrigerator, use it only once for the next meal, and if not left for later. Food is contaminated with bacteria, leaving it in the refrigerator for a long time to produce toxins. When the food is re-cooked, the bacteria will be killed at a temperature of 100ºC, but the toxins produced by the bacteria are still intoxicating to the users.

Drink beer

Do not drink alcohol or beer, especially when driving vehicles. If drinking, it should be limited, should not abuse and use products of origin, published; absolutely do not use unknown sources of use to avoid poisoning, Mr. Phong said.

Recently, many hospitals have received methanol poisoning in hospitals. This alcohol is converted into the body to be toxic to all body parts, especially the eyes, brain . 12 hours or even 1-2 days after drinking, the victim has to signify current poisoning such as blurred vision, fast breathing, drowsiness, slowness, coma .; then the situation was seriously dangerous to life.
