42,000 year old mammoth exhibition

The specimen of a mammoth dating back about 42,000 years, more than a meter long, will be displayed in the UK in the coming days.

Lyuba was a baby mammoth discovered in the Yuribei River in Siberia, Russia, in 2007. This is a female elephant, 85 cm high, 130 cm long and weighs 50 kg. In the study, experts discovered clay in the elephant faucet section. They thought the elephant could fall into the river and be buried in the snow for a long time.

According to the BBC, Lyuba was discovered by a cattle raiser named Yuri Khudi in a well-preserved condition, the internal organs were intact, but the tail was missing. The elephant is named after Yuri Khudi's wife, which means "love" in Russian.

Scientists believe the Lyuba specimen is the most intact mammoth specimen ever found. Professor Adrian Lister, a paleontologist, described the discovery of mammoths from more than 40,000 years ago as "a rare experience".

Lyuba was transferred to England from yesterday and will be on display at the Museum of Natural History in London from May 23 to September 7.
