Americans won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2013

Three American scientists Martin Karplus, Michael Levitt and Arieh Warshel won the Nobel Prize in chemistry this year, with their work developing computer models for chemical systems.

According to the BBC, with this study, scientists can use computer programs to display and analyze the structure of complex molecules in detail. The discovery also placed hot backgrounds for research programs and chemical reaction prediction. A detailed understanding of chemical reactions can help optimize catalysts, drugs and solar cells.

Karplus is working at Harvard University and Strasbourg University, France. Levitt is a professor at Stanford University and Warshel is from Southern California University. Answering over the phone from Los Angeles (USA), Warshel said "extremely happy" when he learned of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Three American scientists will receive a prize of $ 1.25 million from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Nobel Prize in Chemistry is the third prize to be awarded this year's Nobel Prize. Previously, the Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physics was awarded respectively on October 7 and 8.
