A new 20-meter-diameter crater was discovered in Russia's Siberia region, causing concern for local people.

The mysterious pit mouth appears in Siberia

Rinat Sharifullin, a resident of Novokuznetsk in Siberia, was the first to discover the mysterious crater about 100 meters from the house. It is about 20 meters in diameter and 30 meters deep. According to Rinat, the crater can form due to the impact of an abandoned underground mine.

"We have to leave. There are many deep mines in the ground below our garden and have been dormant since the 1990s," Rinat's wife Natalia said. People here fear that they can "swallow " their homes.

Staff of local emergency agencies were present in the area, setting up barriers around, filling up land and conducting investigations.

According to RT, the position of the new crater is about 3,500 km away from the area that once appeared. From July 2014, experts discovered the first three large craters in Siberia but no known cause.

Hypothetically, the global warming caused sudden release of methane beneath the ice, causing massive underground explosions and creating this phenomenon. Geologists say some similar craters may have affected the formation of some lakes on Siberia's Yamal Peninsula.
