Astronauts crawl into the cave to train

The world astronauts ended a cave expedition with the aim of learning how to work together in flight to space.

Astronauts from the US, Japan, Canada, Russia and Denmark have just spent six days in a deep cave to learn group skills, as well as the leadership skills needed for long-term joint flights on the Station. The International Space (ISS), according to RedOrbit, reiterated the press release of the European Space Agency (ESA).

Cave challenges provide effective skills for astronauts

There are similarities between cave conditions and the working environment in space, according to the training course designer Loredana Bessone.

'Family pilots' are forced to adapt to a whole new environment. Working and living in deep caves requires physical and mental strength ' , according to Bessone.

The training also provides an opportunity for future astronauts to practice rituals and missions on ISS.

'Walking in a cave is like a walk in space. You must constantly concentrate to use the right tools and ensure a safe process, to move forward and to avoid obstacles, like how to react to the No Touch Zones and Keep Out areas. Zones (Stay Away) on ISS, ' said Bessone expert.

The cave area selected as the training point for the Caves 2012 program is Sardinia cave, located off the west coast of Italy.
