Weighing more than 1.5kg and worth $ 3,000, the rare black truffles tree is dug up by a farmer in Victoria, Australia, setting a new world record for weight.

According to Herald Sun, Stuart Dunbar, Yarra Valley Truffles mushroom farm owner in Woori Yallock, Victoria, found black truffles weighing 1,511.21g in the orchard while gardening on the afternoon of August 18. Dunbar believes this is the world's largest truffles plant, breaking the 2012 record of a 1,277g heavy mushroom in Bordeaux, France.

"I have a hunch about the mushroom and after 45 minutes digging a big hole on the ground, I found it," Dunbar said. "There is no other record in the world than mushrooms in Bordeaux and we don't know which mushrooms are bigger."

Black truffles are dubbed the "black diamond " of the chefs, the second most expensive fungus in the world , after white truffles. Dunbar usually sells black truffles for $ 2,500 / kg. The high price of truffles comes from the scarcity of this fungus. Mushrooms only grow in some special conditions and have a very short harvest season. Dunbar's farm truffles usually weigh about 50 - 150g, some plants weigh up to 200-300g.

Weighing in excess of 300g compared to the standard of kitchens, Dunbar's black truffles are too large to process. Dunbar intends to soak the mushroom and keep it in the freezer for years of display.
