People in northern China, especially the capital of Beijing, are about to catch a haze of dangerous smog over the weekend.
The BBC on December 18 reported that China 's National Meteorological Center said the haze would spread from Xi'an across the central area of the country, flooding into Beijing, then reaching Shenyang and Harbin in the northeast.
Air pollution will spread to Beijing from the evening of December 19 and last until December 23. Vision in the most heavily affected areas will fall below one kilometer.

In Beijing and parts of Hebei province around the capital, the air quality index (AQI) will exceed 500. At over 300, people are recommended to stay indoors.
The Beijing government announced the first red alert last week when the AQI index shot up to 500. Heavy smoke made people breathe hard. Beijing residents criticized the city government for delaying the issuance of a red alert in the face of serious haze.
The second red alert was issued when the government believed that the AQI would exceed 200 for at least three days. This warning means that half of the vehicles are not allowed to go to the street, schools are encouraged to close and the outdoor construction area is prohibited from construction.
Many other cities in China also bear the same consequences from air pollution. Earlier this week, Shanghai schools were not allowed to play outside and operated at many construction sites as well as restricted factories at the request of the authorities.
