'Blowing away' asteroids threaten the earth with a nuclear bomb
Destroying meteorites that threaten Earth with atomic bombs sounds like a science fiction movie but can completely become a reality.

US scientists are studying how to blow up an asteroid when it detects the risk of colliding with Earth with a nuclear bomb in the same way an expedition has done in a sci-fi film "Armageddon." " produced in 1998 starred by Bruce Willis.
However, unlike "Armageddon" , the ship, designed by scientists at Iowa State University named Hypervelocity Asteroid Intercept Vehicle, also known as HAIV, will be unmanned. HAIV will plunge into the meteorite twice in a row. This stab will help create a hole about 3 meters deep and about 10 meters wide to place an atom bomb. The explosive power emitted from inside the bomb's hole would therefore be 20 times stronger.
'Our solution is quite feasible and relatively affordable,' said Bong Wie, who led the project, currently working at Iowa State University, USA.

During the past 4.5 billion years, our planet has been continuously attacked by asteroids. Some collisions have caused a doom. For example, the collision 65 million years ago made dinosaurs disappear.
Earth is still facing danger from the cosmic rocks. They are large enough to cause extremely serious damage to the global economy. According to scientists' calculations, there is a big disaster every 200 to 300 years from space.
In this situation, people need to join hands to deal with the next dangerous asteroids and are ready to deal with the meteorite's ability to hit Earth just weeks before they appear on the radar. With this scenario, Wie and colleagues' method will be the ideal solution.
Although scientists have just begun to design HAIV, they are cherishing the ambition to conduct trials in the next decade.
