According to a reporter in South America, on November 22, Brazilian paleontologists said that after a 3-skeleton fossil analysis was found in southern Brazil, they discovered that these were the specimens belonging to one The long-necked dinosaur group of Sauropoda (dinosaur hip-lizard) is the oldest known to date.

University of Sao Paulo paleontologists (USP) and Santa Maria Federal University (UFSM) conducted the study named the above dinosaur 'Macrocollum itaquii'.

Macrocollum itaquii was recreated from a 3-skeleton fossil found in 2013 in rocks dating back to 225 million years in the town of Agudo, Rio Grande de Sul state, bordering Argentina and Uruguay.

Speaking to reporters, UFSM spokesman Rodrigo Temp Müller said the 3.5-meter-long fossil, preserved almost intact.

The remarkable point of the discovery is that Macrocollum itaquii belongs to the longest and oldest neck group compared to other long-necked dinosaurs discovered so far.

This specimen will provide evidence of the evolutionary process and characteristics of this dinosaur group.

According to Müller, Macrocollum itaquii is a herbivore and thanks to a long neck, it eats plants high above the ground.

This species may have lived as a habit of the ancient herbivore Sauropodomorpha that dominated the Middle Ages, degraded and extinct in the late Cretaceous (66 million years ago).

The UFSM expert said the fossils of Macrocollum itaquii will be on display at the Cuarta Colonia Paleontological Research Center in the Río Grande de Sul state in the near future.
