Building a process for producing medicinal varieties from 3 species of yellow camellia
Scientists at the Center for Tropical Forestry coordinated with a number of research units to successfully build a process for producing seeds and medicinal herbs from 3 species of yellow camellia in Lam Dong.
This is the result of a national scientific mission under the Program on conservation and sustainable use of genetic resources to 2025, with a vision to 2030 chaired by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Dr. Tran Hong Son, Tropical Forestry Center of the Institute of Forestry Sciences of the South Central and Central Highlands, was assigned to preside over the task of experimentally producing varieties and growing medicinal herbs from three species of yellow camellia Camellia dalatensis, Camellia dormoyana and Camellia dormoyana . Camellia thuongiana in Lam Dong.

Implemented from the end of 2018 to May 2024, scientists have perfected the breeding process, techniques for planting, caring for, harvesting, pre-processing and preserving medicinal yellow flower tea . The project also established basic standards for varieties and medicinal herbs of these 3 types of tea, built a root seed garden of 1,000m2 / species and a propagation garden of 2,000m2 / species.
The research team also built a model focusing on 3 species of yellow camellia according to GACP-WHO standards, then transferred high-yield intensive cultivation techniques in Lam Dong. The results of research and variety testing can be transferred on a larger scale, serving the selection of new varieties in other ecological regions. The mission results are expected to be evaluated and accepted next June.
