China applies permanent magnet synchronous traction system to high-speed trains

With the rapid development of high-speed rail, high-speed trains have become an important means of transportation for the majority of Chinese people.

The country is now making efforts to promote greening of this convenient means of transport.

Mr. Feng Jianghua, chief scientist of China Railway Car Manufacturing Corporation (CRRC) and chief engineer of Zhuzhou Institute Co. Ltd., said that in the near future, China will apply the domestically developed permanent magnet synchronous traction system to high-speed trains, which will have higher speeds, thereby helping to save more energy and be greener.

According to Mr. Phung Giang Hoa, the permanent magnet synchronous traction system is the main product of the next generation traction system for railway transportation . Compared with the traditional asynchronous motor traction system, the permanent magnet synchronous traction system is smaller and lighter, and has better energy-saving performance, with a saving rate of up to 30%.

Since 2003, Zhuzhou Research Institute Co., Ltd. has been a pioneer in conducting research on permanent magnet synchronous traction system in the field of railway transportation. In 2015, China's first high-speed train equipped with permanent magnet traction system officially rolled out.

Chief engineer Feng Jianghua said that China is currently stepping up research and development of higher-speed high-speed trains, and the permanent magnet synchronous traction system is undergoing load tests. After trial operation and data accumulation, it will add momentum to the smart, green transportation equipment, helping to achieve the world's leading position in high-speed train traction technology.
