Telegraph said that China is currently only inferior to the US in terms of the number of research published annually. However, China will surpass the world lead before 2020 if the current growth rate is maintained. The results show that research by Chinese scientists has increased at a faster rate than 'rivals' like India, Russia and Brazil. "China is moving up to the first place in scientific research," said James Wilsdon, an expert at the Royal Society.

Jonathan Adams, director of Thomson Reuters' scientific research evaluation, uses the word 'incredible' to describe China's growth in scientific research. However, he admits that the quality of China's scientific discoveries is inadequate.

According to the Telegraph, the huge investments that the state offers to schools, universities and research programs have boosted the growth of scientific research projects. Chinese scientists seem to have an advantage in chemical and material engineering.
