Video: Lake lava in Kilauea volcano erupts violently
According to the AP, because lava rises from within the volcano, the lava lake is pushed to a higher position, sufficient to observe from afar. The last time molten lava was seen at the crater was 1982, when an eruption cracked.
Janet Babb, an expert of the US Geological Survey on April 30, said it was the first time the eruption of lava was observed from the public area in the Hawaii Volcanic National Park.
