The painting, which covers an area of ??about 120 square meters, depicts scenes from the famous Trojan War. It was a legendary conflict that took place between the ancient Greeks and the people of Troy more than 2,000 years ago. According to experts, this is the rarest, clearest and most intact painting in history.

The soldiers carry swords and shields with their names on them, fierce Amazon warriors. "The new discovery is extremely rare in the world. The large painting is rich in visual details, including remarkable portraits of ancient female Amazon warriors," said Humam Saad , head of the excavation.

The Amazons were fearless warriors of ancient Greek legend who once lived in what is now Ukraine.

The mosaic is one of the most important archaeological discoveries in Syria.

Two of the best known Amazon warriors were Penthesilea, who participated in the Trojan War, and her sister Hippolyta, owner of a magical necklace given to her by the god of war Ares.

The mosaic also depicts Neptune, the ancient Roman god of the sea, and his 40 lovers.

The rift between the ancient Greeks and the Trojans began around the 12th century BC, when the Trojan prince Paris kidnapped Helen, wife of Menelaus of Sparta.

Menelaus demanded the return of his wife from the Trojans, but was refused. Menelaus convinced his brother Agamemnon to lead an army against Troy. The Greeks attacked Troy for nine years, but the city held its own under the leadership of Hector and other sons of the royal family. Finally, the Greeks created a giant wooden horse, hollow inside which a group of warriors hid. This plan of the ancient Greeks succeeded and led to the final victory.

Although the evidence as to whether the war actually took place or is just a myth remains unclear, many researchers believe it was real.

The mosaic is one of the most important archaeological discoveries in Syria. Despite Rastan's historical significance to the country, Dr. Saad said there had been no significant excavation efforts in the town before the country's armed conflict.
