Drinking 1-2 cups of coffee a day can help reduce the risk of high blood pressure

Japanese medical researchers have found that drinking 1-2 cups of coffee a day may help reduce the risk of high blood pressure.

The research team led by a scientist at Keio University led the study on 4,554 people aged 20-70 and found that those who did not drink coffee had the highest rate of high blood pressure. This rate is lowest in people who drink 3 cups of coffee a day or more.

" Drinking 1-2 cups of coffee a day is good for young people and middle-aged people ," Japan's Tokyo Shimbun newspaper quoted scientists as saying.

Chlorogenic acid, a type of polyphenol found in coffee, is considered to be a substance that acts to expand blood vessels. A group of other Japanese researchers also found drinking a cup of coffee a day halved the risk of colon cancer in women.

However, the report also suggested that drinking coffee could lead to brain-vascular disorders in the elderly. Drinking too much caffeine also causes excess stomach acid.

Not long ago, a group of American researchers also announced that drinking coffee did not raise blood pressure in women.
