Decipher the mystery of 1000 frogs exploding in the 'lake of death'

The mystery for nearly 9 years about the lake in Germany where 1000 poisonous frogs suddenly exploded their bodies has been solved.

In 2005, the world press simultaneously reported on the phenomenon of more than 1,000 frogs exploding in a small lake in Hamburg, Germany.

At that time, this lake was dubbed the lake of death. The frogs in turn inflated like air balloons until its belly suddenly popped out. The force of the explosion was so strong that the frog's carcass was scattered in several square meters. The scene lasted only a few minutes and no scientist could explain the phenomenon. Things seemed to have reached a climax when the frog outbreak spread to a lake in Denmark.

In 2005, a lake in Germany was dubbed the lake of death because up to 1000 frogs exploded for unknown reasons.

After nearly 9 years, a scientist has revealed this mysterious phenomenon. Frank Mutschmann, one of Germany's leading amphibian experts, discovered that the frog massacre was caused by an extremely intelligent crow.

Frank studied samples of live and dead frogs in Hamburg and discovered that the backs of the dead frogs had a notch the size of a bird's beak. He later discovered that all the frogs that had exploded were missing their livers.

'The frogs that were blown up were not eaten by rats or rodents but by crows that pecked and ate only their livers. These crows are very intelligent because they know that the skin of this frog is extremely poisonous and that the liver is the only part that is rich in nutrients.'

They found the exact location of the liver under the skin and pecked and took the liver to eat. Only after losing their livers, do the poisonous frogs realize they have been attacked and expand their bodies to defend themselves. However, because there were no ribs and the liver was lost, the lungs could not hold it, so it swelled up to the point of bursting.

Now people have found the culprit for the strange phenomenon, the wise crow.

Frogs are much loved and preserved in Germany. As Frank explained, the phenomenon of this mass of frogs breaking is nothing to worry about because this is just a matter of balance in nature.
