A 23 cm parasite worm was found in the brain of a young woman and safely removed after complicated brain surgery in Jiangsu Province, China.
The unnamed patient was diagnosed with epilepsy in December 2010. But after a blood test, the doctor found that she was infected with the pathogen. Moreover, the CT scanner also showed an unknown point in her brain.
Half a year later, she was again convulsed again and this time she had to undergo surgery. During the operation, the doctor discovered granulomas, a special type of inflammation in her brain and thought that was the cause of her seizures.
Doctors have re-examined and identified the parasitic worm in the brain that causes granulomas and epilepsy.
The doctor who performed the surgery said that according to the appearance, it could be seen as an ice worm.
Currently the patient is recovering.
According to experts, parasitic worms can invade a patient's body after accidentally eating some food with egg of the organism. Experts also remind people to pay attention to food hygiene and ensure food is cooked before eating.
