It is a Burmese python, 5.8 meters long, weighing 58kg. It broke the record of a 5.4-meter python captured in August last year at the Everglades National Park.

Leon Jason, a student of the Marine Biology Research School, said he once owned a Burmese python and so he had experience dealing with this species.

Burmese Python is native to Southeast Asia and can be up to 7 meters long, weighs 200kg. The python breeding facilities in Florida have left Burmese pythons out and since then, they have grown to tens of thousands of animals, mainly in marshes. Burmese pythons are a threat to wildlife, so the Florida government always wants to eliminate them if possible.

Kristen Sommers, a leader of Florida's Wildlife and Fish Conservation Commission (FWC), praised Leon's brave action for eliminating a large Burmese python and reporting the incident.

The giant python was transferred to the Fort Lauderdale University of Research and Education in Florida for research.
