Determine the identity of a person by ear

Airport security personnel can replace the identification of a person by fingerprint or eye color by looking at the shape of his or her ear.

Image for illustrative purposes. (Source Internet) The researchers found that the ears of each person has a unique shape. Therefore, they have built a system that can scan the image of the ears. This imaging technique uses technology that highlights all the tubular structures of the ear and their sizes.

These figures can then be compared to the available data on everyone's ears to determine who their owner is.

Dr Mark Nixon, head of research at the University of Southampton, said biometric identification could create confusion. For example, recognizing a person through the face may be mistaken as an older person. However, identifying with the ear is both discreet and can both confuse the error. Basically, each person's ear has a perfect shape from birth.

Dr. Nixon and his team tested 252 people and found that the system could identify a person through the ear image with 99% accuracy.

According to Dr. Nixon, the imaging of ear can be very easy as passengers pass through the security gate.

All UK passports now carry a chip that has biometric information about the person and additional information about the ear can be easily obtained.
