Develop antibiotic production technology in Vietnam
The Institute of Biotechnology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology) has succeeded in developing antibiotic production in Vietnam according to methods of applying biotechnology and new materials technology.
This is a topic of the National Key Science and Technology Program on the development of the Chemical and Pharmaceutical Industry by 2020, starting from 2008 to 2012, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Gia Hy - Biotechnology Institute Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology)
Antibiotics
According to Prof. Dr. Le Gia Hy, in recent years, in Vietnam, the demand for beta-lactam antibiotics has been increasing. Among imported antibiotics for medical treatment in hospitals and medical facilities every year, new-generation cephalosporin antibiotics account for about 50%.
This is considered a group of less toxic antibiotics and highly effective in treating infections related to bacteria because it has the ability to resist the bacteria that are resistant to penicillins .
In addition, due to high demand and the import of antibiotics, it is costly to study the development of antibiotic production technology has become an urgent task.
The success of the project will be a premise for the second and third generation cephalosporin antibiotic production project in Vietnam in the next stage.
