This specimen is named after Goniopholis kiplingi , after the name of Rudyark Kipling, the author of The Just So Stories. Richard Edmonds and other members of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Research team found the skull in April 2009.

As a perfectly preserved specimen, it was borrowed by Briston University and the direct researcher Marco Brandalise de Andrade. This scientist has carefully compared other specimens collected from around the world.

CT Scanner has deep scan inside the skull structure to identify the differences between it and the samples that scientists have collected over the past 200 years.
