Discover an ancient city in the middle of the Pacific Ocean

Scientists who have just discovered a forgotten place lie between the Pacific Ocean and possibly the mysterious city of Atlantis.

The remote and deserted island of Pohnpei , located off the small country of Micronesia, is largely unexplored by archaeologists and explorers. Recently, however, satellite images have helped experts find a forgotten mystery here.

The video was posted on the science channel 'What on Earth?' on Youtube revealed images of this mysterious place. Images show an archaeological work known as Nan Madol on Pohnpei island.

This work is believed to be a city with lots of canals and large stone walls. Researchers believe the city may date from the 1st or 2nd century AD, and is likely to be one of the first major cities in the Pacific's history in the Pacific.

What makes this new discovery more interesting is the remote of Pohnpei island . This tiny island is about 4,000km from Los Angeles and about 2,500km from Australia.

Although almost nothing has been reported about the people who once lived on the island, Mark McCoy of Southern Methodist University in Texas said Nan Modol was likely an ancient capital city.
