Earth temperature can increase by 6 degrees Celsius

A prestigious scientific organization confirmed that the average temperature of the planet could rise to 6 degrees Celsius if countries do not act urgently to reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere.

Global Carbon Project - an expert network of research institutes around the world - has investigated the increase in CO2 on Earth from 2000 to the present. The latest report of the Global Carbon Project shows that CO 2 emissions increased by 29% between 2000-2008. A quarter of the additional gas is generated from consumer goods production in developed countries.

'Recent climate trends show that the summit in Denmark in December is the last chance for us to curb the rise of temperature in the future. If the agreement reached in this conference does not have strict binding terms, the temperature of the Earth will increase by 5 or 6 degrees Celsius' - Corinne Le Quere, professor at the University of East Anglia (UK) and a co-author fake the report, said.

In a paper published in Nature Geoscience, Le Quere said that before the 21st century, global emissions only increased by 1% per year. After 2002 the rate increased to 3% per year due to China's strong economic activities before a slight decline in 2008 by the global economic recession.

The International Energy Agency predicts that emissions will decline by about 3% this year before regaining momentum as the economic crisis ends. The Global Carbon Project also made similar predictions and warned of an increase in the density of atmospheric emissions.

Mr. Le Quere believes that oceans and plants absorb some of the CO2 produced by fossil fuel burning. The amount of emissions originating from industrial production tends to escalate, but the rate of increase of emissions originating from land use activities remains unchanged.

According to the Global Carbon Project's calculations, every citizen on Earth is indirectly generating 1.3 tons of carbon through the consumption of goods and services. In order for the Earth temperature to increase by only 2 degrees C (acceptable level), each individual must reduce 0.3 tons of carbon before 2050.
