Eating sexually-modified canned foods?

Urine of people who eat canned foods daily has abnormally high levels of bisphenol A (BPA).

The amount of BPA in the urine of people who eat canned soup is up to 20.8 micrograms / liter, while the amount of BPA in the urine of people who eat cooked soup is 1.1 micrograms / liter. BPA is found in many canned foods. This is a byproduct of the chemicals used to avoid corrosion.

When the researchers looked at the increase in BPA in people who eat canned foods and regular foods, they found an increase of 1.221%.

The study was conducted by scientists at Harvard University (USA) with over 75 people with an average age of 27. A group of participants ate 340g of fresh soup each day at lunch, while the other group ate soup box with equal amount. Their urine samples were collected during the 5-day study.

BPA is found in 77% of people who eat freshly cooked soup, and all who eat canned soup have this substance in them.

A study conducted in 2008 on 1,455 people showed that high levels of BPA in the urine were associated with the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, the concentration of some enzymes in the liver abnormally, even when scientists take into account other factors such as age, body mass index and smoking.

Other studies suggest that pregnant women 's BPA levels make babies born unhealthy. BPA can also cause hormonal changes, causing some gender problems, such as early puberty.

However, this study focused only on students or teachers at a school, as well as surveying only one Progresso-branded soup. But researchers say other canned foods also have similar amounts of BPA.
