Egypt discovered an ancient citadel of 3,500 years
The Egyptian Ministry of Culture said on August 25 that archaeologists have discovered an ancient citadel of 3,500 years in a desert valley in the country. This relic is 1,000 years earlier than the ancient citadel was discovered before.
Yale University archaeologists discovered this ancient citadel when excavating and sketching an ancient road in the western desert in the Umm Rl-Kharga valley.
This ancient citadel was once on a busy commercial road and peaked during the Middle Kingdom period (from 1786 BC to 1665 BC). This trade route connects Egypt with the Nile and the western valley and extends to Darfur, Sudan.
Archaeologist John Darnell, in charge of the research team, said they had discovered an ancient bakery site including two toaster ovens, a ceramic baking tool. This shows that this ancient city used to be an important food center.
