Egypt discovered dozens of ancient mummies

The Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities announced that it discovered 57 ancient tombs in the country, most of them with mummies.

The AP reported that graves were opened in Lahoun, Fayoum city - about 100 km south of Cairo. The oldest tombs were built around 2750 BC, the period of existence of the first and second dynasties in Egypt. There are 12 tombs belonging to the 18th dynasty - ruling Egypt in the second millennium BC.

Zahi Hawass, secretary general of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities, said the mummies buried from the 18th dynasty were covered in linen. The mummies containing mummies are decorated with words bearing religious meaning and drawings showing the gods in the beliefs of ancient Egypt.

The Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities said the newly discovered tombs would help the scientific community better understand the religions of the ancients.

Abdel Rahman El-Aydi, team leader of archeologists found the tombs, saying that the ancient people decorated them with religious words and holy images in the hope that those things would help the dead to reach the next world. that. According to him, one of the oldest tombs remains almost intact. The team found the entire burial suit and a wooden sarcophagus with a mummy wrapped in linen.

In 31 tombs built between 2020 and 1840 BC, archaeologists found drawings of many gods, such as Horus (with the head of a falcon), Hathor, Khnum and Amun.

Last year, 53 ancient tombs were also found in Fayoum, Egypt. They are built in different stages.
