England: thermal power plants switch to using biofuels
British power company RWE Npower announced it could convert an oil-fired power plant in the south of the country to using palm oil after recalculating costs and technical issues.
Crude oil prices have risen by 19% this year, putting companies into the market looking for cheaper fuel sources. Palm oil is an environmental biofuel, and RWE may switch to using it.
Leon Flexman, a spokesman for RWE Npower, said RWE is considering the environmental impacts of palm oil production to make appropriate decisions, because they do not want to use palm oil to lose their appearance. rainforest.
If confirmed, this will be Britain's first and largest project to expand the ability to use biofuels extracted from plant and animal products.
