Specifically, researchers from 3 organizations Global Action Plan, Reset Australia and Fairplay conducted a study by setting up 3 fake Facebook accounts, in which 1 account registered 13 years old and the other 2 registered accounts. 16 years old.

The team then assessed Facebook's data collection when it used fake accounts to access local newspapers and clothing retailers.

'Facebook may collect data from the web browser tabs and pages children open, collecting information such as the buttons they click on the page, the terms they search for or the products they purchase' , the said the researcher.

This is in contrast to the commitment that the technology giant made in July 2021 that they only collect 3 information, namely age, gender and location of users to guide advertising.

Meanwhile, Joe Osborne, a spokesman for the parent company Meta, denied the allegation. "We don't use data from advertisers or partners' websites and apps to personalize advertising to people under the age of 18 ," he said.
