GJ 504b , the name of the pink planet, revolves around a star named GJ 504 and 57 light-years from Earth. GJ 504 star , belongs to the constellation Virgo, a little hotter than the sun. It and GJ 504b are two relatively young bodies, with an age of about 160 million years. For comparison, you only need to know the earth is more than 4 billion years old.
Michael McElwain, an astronomer from the US Aerospace Agency (NASA), and his colleagues discovered GJ 504b and its star.
"If we could get to this pink planet, we would see it continue to glow by heat during planetary construction , " he said.
Although the smallest planet ever discovered outside the solar system, GJ 504b is still a giant planet - about the size of Jupiter. The distance between it and the star itself is nearly 44 times the distance between the earth and the sun. Its surface temperature is about 237 degrees Celsius.
