According to locals, these fish were released by large seabirds such as gulls and pelicans at a location across the city.

Anchovies are small fish, often found in the sea. It often washes ashore after high tides. Gulls and pelicans love this fish.

It is known that in the unusual fish rain in the city of San Francisco, the US coincided with the appearance of many gulls and pelicans with full stomachs. Because they were so full, they released the fish while flying in the sky and in the rain.

Jim Ervinm, a data analyst with the San Jose Department of Environmental Services lab, has documented an unusual increase in anchovy populations.

Jim Ervinm said: "In April and May, there were 29 and 52 fish respectively. However, this number skyrocketed to more than 2,600."

The unusually large numbers of anchovies are related to a natural process, called turbulence, characterized by cold, nutrient-rich water rising from the depths to displace warmer water at the surface.

Adam Ratner, deputy director of conservation at the Marine Mammal Centre, said: 'The water temperature is colder than usual right now. This provides some much-needed food for animals such as anchovies, seabirds and marine mammals."
