Thaksin Shinawatra, the prime minister, welcomed Vietnam's first participation in the ACMECS Summit. Five ACMECS member states have signed a declaration of comprehensive cooperation against bird flu.
At the conference, Vietnam and Thailand agreed on educational cooperation within the framework of human resource development, while helping the other three countries, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, to train at the university level. Thailand and Cambodia signed a policy to implement a visa valid from April 2006. This is the first development of the 'Five Countries, One Destination' project, which allows foreign tourists to access all five ACMECS countries with a visa to promote tourism development in the region.
