Floods raged across China, 105 people died

Floods at both ends of China have left at least 105 people dead and 115 others missing in recent days.

In the northeast of China, floods were described as the worst in decades that killed 72 people, Xinhua reported. Liaoning, the province suffered the most severe damage, with 54 deaths and 97 missing.

In the south, overrun by Utor super typhoon last week, Guangdong became the worst-hit province with 22 deaths and 8 missing people. In neighboring localities, at least 11 people were killed as a result of the super typhoon.

Roads were severely paralyzed, causing the travel plan of 10 million people to be affected. Some trains from Guangzhou Railway Station, the most important transport hub of Guangdong Province, have been postponed because of rain and landslides.

Chinese state media said 80,000 passengers were affected during the weekend due to the delay. Some trains only started to return to normal operations on August 19.

More than 2,800 soldiers have been strengthened in southern China to support efforts to mitigate disaster consequences.
