Good news for patients with breast cancer

Scientists in the US are seeking to use the patient's own fat-derived stem cells to regenerate lost breast tissue. A three-year preliminary program of animal studies will witness stem cells ' sticking ' to the scaffolding structure. Experiments have demonstrated the flexibility of fat-derived stem cells. Exposed to special chemical conditions, they develop into cells with the properties of fat, bone, cartilage, nerves, muscles and blood vessels.

Experts estimate that 454 grams of fat extracted from liposuction can produce up to 200 million stem cells.
