'Graveyard' 6,000-year fossil coral, 20,000m2 in Ly Son
This unique geological heritage is located in Dong village, An Hai commune, Ly Son island district, dating from 5,000 to 6,000 years.
After months of investigation, on January 31, the expert group of the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources (Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment) published the results of research on unique paleontological heritage - "Graveyard" Chilled millstone fossil in this island district.
This unique geological heritage is located in Dong village, An Hai commune, Ly Son island district, dating from 5,000 to 6,000 years. The area spreads over an area of 20,000 square meters close to the majestic Hang Cau volcanic cliffs.

Mr. Tran Ngoc Cang, Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee, said that the discovery of the "graveyard" millstone fossil coral in Ly Son island district has special significance in terms of science.
"Functional agencies need to immediately implement protective measures for research; at the same time find feasible solutions to exploit and promote the monument value to serve tourism development in the locality , " said Mr. Cuong. .
The Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee also requested Ly Son district to urgently zoning off and protecting human activities that could be harmful to the heritage, including temporarily suspending construction of all works in the area of geological heritage. this.
In the coming time, Quang Ngai invited experts from the Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources to further study the area of heritage discovery and to consolidate the documents submitted to UNESCO for advice and help the province take measures to protect and promote value.

Previously, in August 2017, experts from the Institute of Geology - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology published survey results, studied 10 intact volcanic craters in Ly Son island district. In it, six craters on Big Island, one on Baby Island, three craters under the sea.
The ancient crater of Hang Cau and Hang pagoda erupted early about 9-11 million years. This ancient volcano sprayed on large basalt stones, creating the foundation of the current Ly Son island. And the crater has a lake on the top of Thoi Loi erupting 1 million years ago.
