According to the International Business Times, the company evaluated Fitrated gym equipment to survey hygiene in the gyms by sampling bacteria from 27 tools at three major facilities across the United States.

The finding shows that jogging equipment has an average of 74 times higher bacteria than the bathroom faucet. The number of bacteria on weightlifters and pedal machines is 362 times and 400 times higher than toilet bowls.

However, it is worrisome that 71% of the bacteria found on the gym equipment in the survey are likely to harm humans and and 31% of them are antibiotic resistant. In addition, 52% of bacteria on treadmill also contribute to infection of skin, ears, eyes and respiratory system, along with many other diseases such as pneumonia and blood infection.

"Although the risk of harmful bacteria is quite high, it does not mean that you will be infected , " said Dr. Philip M. Tierno, professor of microbiology and pathology at the Langone Medical Center of New University. York, said.

According to Tierno, the best way to prevent dangerous bacteria is to wash your hands before and after using the gym equipment , avoid eye, nose, mouth touching the exercise set and wash your clothes after training.
