On April 24, the provinces of Lao Cai, Son La, and Phu Tho suffered hailstorms and suffered heavy economic losses.

At 6:30 p.m. on April 24, in Van Ban district (Lao Cai), showers and intense hail suddenly poured down in some localities of the district. In particular, in Khanh Yen Trung, Khanh Yen Thuong communes and Van Ban town, there were two hail storms lasting from 6:30 p.m. to 6:48 p.m., with dense intensity. Hailstones are 2 - 3cm in size, some are as big as chicken eggs.

Currently, there are no specific statistics on damage. Initially, it was noted that some areas of trees, crops and people's houses were affected.

On the evening of April 24, in Van Ban district (Lao Cai), showers and intense hail suddenly poured down in some localities.

In Son La province at around 4:00 p.m. on April 24, hail suddenly appeared and caused damage in Van Ho district, Son La. Hail concentrates mainly in Long Luong commune and some neighboring areas in Van Ho district.

The rain lasted for about 30 minutes, causing damage to the vegetables and fruit trees of the people here.

In Long Luong commune, Van Ho district (Son La) , there are 9 villages in the whole commune, 7 of which were affected by the hail storm. In particular, although there was no loss of life, more than 20 houses in Lung Xa and Ta De villages had their roofs punctured by hail.

Regarding crop damage, there are currently no detailed statistics, but through preliminary information, the area planted with beans, tomatoes, corn, chayote, plums, and peaches suffered relatively heavy damage.

Today, some other localities of Son La province also experienced rain, showers and thunderstorms. Currently, the authorities are collecting damage statistics and focusing on overcoming the consequences of natural disasters.

Previously, in Phu Tho province at noon on April 24, there were thunderstorms, tornadoes and hail causing damage to facilities and agricultural production of over 9.6 billion VND.

Specifically, rainfall in some places in the province: Xuan Thuy (Yen Lap) 73.2mm; Cam Khe 65.2mm; Yen Lap 52.4mm; Trung Son (Yen Lap) 50.4mm; Phu Tho Irrigation Department 43.6mm; Lam Thao 24.2mm.

According to a quick report from the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) of Viet Tri city and Lam Thao and Cam Khe districts, thunderstorms damaged 11 houses in Lam Thao district and 17 schools in the city. Viet Tri, Lam Thao district was damaged and had its roof blown off; A medical station in Viet Tri city had its fence collapsed.

Regarding agricultural production, in Lam Thao district, 35 hectares of rice, corn, and crops were dumped; 28 hectares of banana trees were completely damaged. In addition, 2 brick kilns in Cam Khe district had their roofs blown off about 7,000 square meters, 2 agencies in Lam Thao district were affected, and 14 electric poles in Lam Thao district were broken and collapsed. Estimated total damage due to natural disasters is about 9.62 billion VND.
