On May 22, Japanese electronics group Hitachi introduced a prototype mobile tomography device that measures daily brain activity. Thanks to this new technology, scientists and doctors will be able to study the brain activity of patients in trams, cars, offices, on the street or at home.
This system is shaped like a head bandage with a control box weighing 600g. It transmits directly the collected data over the wireless network to a computer (portable or fixed) remotely.
To shrink the device and use it outside the laboratory, Hitachi said it has developed techniques based on optical tomography using laser light, allowing imaging of neural activity by measuring blood flow.
