The Scottish scientist's study showed that giant squid hidden in deep sea could be bigger and longer than a school bus.

According to Live Science, giant squid (Architeuthis dux) specimens were discovered in 1639 when they washed ashore. However, this sea monster is so cleverly hidden that it resembles a more legendary creature until the giant squid images that live in the natural environment appear in 2004.

Since the discovery of giant squid, researchers have made many speculations about the size that this species can reach. In an analysis of more than 130 specimens, scientists said no specimen had a length exceeding 13m. Previous studies have also estimated that hundreds of thousands of giant squid can live in the ocean and the ability to encounter this species is larger than the conventional concept, according to Charles Paxton, ecologist and industry statistics. fisheries in St Andrews University, Scotland.

Paxton's data analysis shows that giant squid can reach 20m in length. The study published May 17 in the Journal of Zoology speculates the maximum size of giant ink by considering a range of data classes as well as checking data collected directly from existing specimens.

The database used by Paxton for analysis includes 164 body length measurements, 39 standard length measurements (the longest body length and the longest arm), 47 total length measurements (including dimension long body and tentacles). Tentacles are the limbs of the ink, often with teeth or hooks at the end and much longer than ink hands.

Paxton also considered 46 cases of measuring ink mines with body length. Scientists discover mine size can help predict body length, thereby confirming the results of previous studies. Statistics show that giant squid can reach a body length of 3m and a total length of 20m.
