A Polish company is developing smart sleep masks that can intervene and optimize sleep quality using sensors and software on smartphones.
Three sensors in the Zizz mask measure brain waves, eye movements and muscle tension. This sensor will monitor the user's sleep cycle. The electronics of the mask send the signal to the amplifier for analysis and then, the signal is transmitted via Bluetooth to the user's smartphone.
An average 90-minute sleep cycle. If this cycle is interrupted, people often feel very tired. Instead of waking up at a pre-set time in the alarm clock, the Zizz Mask is programmed to awaken the user after a sleep cycle ends. After certain sleep cycles, the smartphone sends a signal to the mask to initiate the wake-up process. The LED on the mask will light up to gently awaken the user.
Ziz Masks are in the early stages of development and should be licensed by the Food and Drug Administration before being officially marketed.
