Japan studied the construction of elevators in space

A lot of people want to go into space on an elevator. NASA has also been studying for years to find the tools needed to build this elevator. Many other companies around the world are doing the same job.

Recently, a Japanese construction company named Obayashi announced plans to deploy a fully functional elevator into space by 2050. ABC said Obayashi revealed that they are studying to build one. The space elevator has a length of 96,000km, capable of transporting people and goods into space at a much lower cost than the current method of launching missiles from the Earth. It is expected to take seven days for each one-way travel of the space elevator with the destination as a special space station built specifically for this project.

Obayashi said, it is not easy to build a "space elevator" because some necessary materials are not available at the present time. However, Japanese construction firm believes that in the future with strong development of carbon nanotechnology, it will greatly help realize the space elevator project.

"Space elevators need cables that are 100 times more durable than steel cables. Right now we can't build lengthy cables for elevators. We can only make nanotubes. 3cm long, but we need more, we think that by 2030 we will realize that, " Obayashi's Director of Research and Development, Yoji Ishikawa, shared with ABC.
