The decision was made at the 19th session of the UNESCO International Coordinating Committee for the Man and the Biosphere Program (MAB), which took place October 23-27 in Paris (France).
So far, Vietnam has 5 world biosphere reserves including Can Gio, Cat Tien, Cat Ba, Red and Kien Giang river deltas.
At this session, Vietnam was elected Vice Chairman of the International Coordinating Council MAB representing the Asia-Pacific group.
The meeting agreed to elect Sweden as Chairman of the MAB Council. Along with Vietnam, Russia, Chile, Ethiopia and Sudan, were elected as Vice-Chairmen of the Council representing groups of countries.
Elsewhere, on October 27, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) adopted a decision to recognize 25 more biosphere reserves in the world.
These recognized ecological sanctuaries include the Alacranét reef, the Tanaca volcanic region, and the butterfly butterfly residence in Mexico, the Belarusian mountain region of Russia, Russia's Vong river basin ecoregion at Samara Tolatti. .
With the new decision, in the ecological network in the world there are a total of 507 protected areas distributed in 102 countries.
