Kill yellow snail with medicine made from plants

From a number of available plants in Vietnam, the Plant Protection Institute has created a highly effective golden snail killing product, not toxic to the environment.

From there, they created 40 types of inoculants and tested the effect except for this pest species.

Through many experiments in pots and pots as well as in the field, after three years the researchers selected and mixed to create two products (BOURBO 8.3 BR and TICTACK 13.2 BR dry powder and CH-01 extract form) . Raw materials for production are foliage, panacea and cool trees, which can be exploited in Vietnam to meet the demand for large production.

Dr Thanh said that these three preparations have been widely used in Dong Thap and Lang Son - where the density of yellow snails in some districts such as Huu Lung and Thanh Binh reaches 100-200 heads / m2.

The results showed that after 2 - days of sprinkling, the effectiveness of killing yellow snails of rice inoculants reached 79-92%, not killing fish and other aquatic animals. In addition, the active ingredients in the composition decompose after a few days, so it is safer for the production of clean agricultural products.

Each farmer only needs to use one of these three preparations to treat fields and ponds contaminated with yellow snail once before or immediately after transplanting. The use of the drug is very simple, can be mixed with fertilizer or sprinkled normally in the field. The dose used each time is 10-20kg / ha at a cost of 160,000-200,000 VND, lower than using chemical drugs. Moreover, the above preparations are also very easy to preserve.

Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has specifically allowed the production and use of these products nationwide to kill yellow snails.

It is expected that the Institute of Defense will produce about 100 tons of TICTACK 13.2 BR this year and is preparing to transfer this technology to produce inoculants on a large scale.

It is known that in Vietnam, yellow snails are regularly harmful on an area of about 150-250 thousand hectares, mainly in the rice fields in the Mekong Delta. Most farmers using manual methods are caught by hand.

Meanwhile, chemical insecticides used to kill yellow snails are not used much due to high prices and unstable effects, especially when the temperature is low.

Yellow snail pesticides contain highly effective Niclosamite but very toxic to fish and aquatic animals. Endosulfan - organic chlorine has been banned for use in Vietnam because it is very toxic to fish and aquatic animals, but it is most widely used by farmers because of the cheap price to eradicate some other pests.
