Lam Dong cracked land, Ninh Thuan mud spray
The phenomenon of soil cracking in Lam Dong and mud spraying in Ninh Thuan in recent days has raised the question: whether or not the relationship between these two phenomena?
In the afternoon of 4.5, Mr. Tran Kim Tien, Vice Chairman of People's Committee of Loi Hai commune, Thuan Bac district, Ninh Thuan said: 'The phenomenon of local mud eruption is still happening. At 5 points of sludge spraying, slurry of rock and soil erupted as when discovered; There are a few points where the amount of sludge has decreased ' . Mr. Le Kim Hung, Director of Ninh Thuan Department of Science and Technology , said: 'Until now, the phenomenon of local sludge has not been studied, because the provincial People's Committee has not approved funding'.

The phenomenon of sludge spraying in Ninh Thuan and unusual soil cracking in Di Linh (Lam Dong) made many people worried about a geological connection. Some scientists from the Geological Institute said that soil cracking in Lam Dong is not related to earthquakes or volcanoes.
Assoc.Prof.Dr Nguyen Hong Phuong, deputy director of the Earthquake Alert Center and tsunami warning , said Lam Dong is less affected by volcanoes and earthquakes. It is not possible to confirm the exact cause of soil cracking and subsidence occurring in the area of Di Linh, Lam Dong province because it is necessary to study the site as well as analyze many data . First step , Dr. Phuong said that this is likely a hydrogeological phenomenon related to excessive groundwater exploitation activities, not related to earthquakes and volcanoes.
Dr. Phuong also affirmed that cracked soil in Lam Dong and strange mud erupted in Ninh Thuan are two completely different and unrelated phenomena. 'Mud spray in Ninh Thuan was identified as a phenomenon of mud volcanoes while cracking soil in Lam Dong is likely due to excessive groundwater extraction' , Dr. Phuong said.
On the same day, Dr. Do Van Linh, Deputy Head of the Southern Geological Mapping Federation (under the Department of Geology and Minerals of Vietnam ), identified the phenomenon of soil cracking in Di Linh related to Bao Lam fault zone. (Lam Dong) - Tam Hiep (Dong Nai).

Dr. Do Van Linh said: there are 2 main causes of soil cracking. The endogenous cause is due to the return period of the fault zone in the ground. The external cause is due to weathering weathering, the internal contraction of rock and soil. In the past, in the Southeast provinces, there were places where the soil cracking combined both endogenous and exogenous causes. Usually, the places where the weak pulse cracks soil coincide with the break point. If people exploit excessive groundwater, they will create a hollow hole, causing imbalance in the soil structure, which may lead to soil cracking and land subsidence. Mr. Linh commented: Bao Lam - Tam Hiep fault is a perpendicular fault with two major fault zones Da Nhim (Lam Dong) - Bien Hoa (Dong Nai) and Tuy Hoa (Phu Yen) - Bien Hoa. However, to conclude the exact cause must come to the specific measurement site, how to monitor groundwater dynamics .
