According to the Institute of Geology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology ), the landslide phenomenon in Quang Tri is a type of normal geological disaster, often occurring in limestone areas. However, the Institute of Geology also said that there is no funding to go to the place to survey and learn more about the causes of the landslide mentioned above.

Talking to reporters on the morning of February 20, Dr. Tran Trong Hue, Director of the Institute of Geology, said that due to not entering Tan Huyen, Cam Tuyen commune, Cam Lo district, the Institute's experts have not confirmed the cause. as well as accurately locate this geological hazard.
However, landslide hazards often occur in limestone areas where Cam Lo lies on the limestone formation about 260- 380 million years ago.
One possible reason is that the Cam Lo River fault is active which has caused strong rocks and rock in the limestone layer underground, creating conditions for the formation of cavities and caves. When there are geological fluctuations, these caves collapse, emitting an explosion and dragging the ground above.
Strong rock and soil breaking above can also create cracks in the limestone layer. Underground rivers can form from these cracks. Due to the effects of nature or humans, this groundwater level may drop, causing landslides above.
According to the Geological Institute's document, the same phenomenon of land collapse occurred in early 2005 in Ỷ La and Ham Yen (Tuyen Quang). The site of the disaster is located along the Lo River fault and also has limestone below. Earlier, landslides occurred in Thanh Ba (Phu Tho) due to groundwater exploitation. This place is also located on the limestone area.
Dr. Hue added that when constructing large projects, the survey process easily detects the risk of subsidence, and then takes measures to handle. However, Vietnam still has no conditions to investigate the risk of subsidence collapse for each small residential area.
It is known that due to the operational budget of the Geological Institute has been contracted, the Institute currently does not have the funds to send a delegation to study the above geological hazard.
The Institute has also repeatedly asked the Ministry of Science and Technology to grant a fund called a regular fund.
According to the representative of the Institute of Geology, if this fund is available, if there is a geological incident, the Institute can bring the machine to study immediately. On that basis, give the next warnings and explain in detail so that people understand the situation as well as prevent.
