A woman in Germany lived with a pencil for the first time in 55 years. Last week doctors had surgery to remove it for her.

'When I was 4, I fell while holding a pencil in my hand. It pierced my skin and disappeared in my head. Severe pain, 'said Margret Wegner, 59, who recounted the pain . This 8 cm long pencil went through Margret's optic nerve and a main artery just a few millimeters. The doctors at that time did not dare to risk her surgery.

Since then, Margret has often suffered from headaches, accompanied by nosebleeds. After 55 years, Margret decided to let the doctors perform the surgery that could endanger his life.

The surgery was carried out by Professor Hans Behrbohm, a doctor specializing in endoscopic sinus surgery at the Berlin-Weissensee hospital. The majority of this pencil was removed, however a piece of 2 cm long pencil remained in Margret's brain.

'The first part of the pencil is wrapped in soft tissue and does not pose a risk to the patient, so there is no need to remove it,' said Professor Hans Behrbohm. He also said that Margret is now able to walk and is no longer in pain.

The best news for Margret was that she could smell again, since the pencil had previously interfered in many places in the nose, affecting her sense of smell.
