Rootkit Detective can deeply search for kernel processes and hide Registry keys, disable and remove them completely when users reboot the system. McAfee also tested and validated PC kernel memory integrity testing and monitored all Rootkit Detective changes.

Rootkits are a type of malware that can hide themselves in the eyes of security software. They usually install themselves into the system as a kernel module or driver. In addition, rootkits are used to help hackers hide other types of malicious code, such as keyloggers, a program capable of recording all actions on the keyboard.

As the PC is increasingly equipped with strong anti-malware security tools, hackers have turned to using rootkits to help them sniff and hide malicious code on users' PCs.

The latest statistics from McAfee said that since the beginning of 2007, more than 7,325 new rootkit variants have been discovered. This number is equivalent to 100% growth compared to the number of the whole year.

Interested readers can download Rootkit Detective tool here. The software has a capacity of 1.44MB saved as a ZIP file. The software does not need to be installed, just extract it and you can use it immediately.
